4D Doodling

4D Doodling is a project that explores the possibilities of manual 4D printing. 4D printing is a prototyping technology with many advantages, but it can only be carried out in the laboratory at present, and most people cannot feel its charm and fun.

What if 4D printing can be done with a 3D printing pen?

 

My team explored this possibility in terms of materials, printing techniques, shapes, applications, etc. The pictures below showcase one of the applications -easier 3D painting.

 

The paper of this project are currently published in the UIST 2021, and we are continuing to explore. In the future, 4Doodling may enable more families and children to create their own 4D printed works.
